Professionals should verify their individual requirements with the New York State Education Department or New York State Department of Health.

NYS Infection Control training online core elements or areas:
NYSED identifies seven required core elements for approved infection-control coursework. Our training addresses these areas:
1. Professional Responsibility: Understand the responsibility of healthcare professionals to follow scientifically accepted infection-control principles and practices.
2. Modes and Mechanisms of Transmission: Learn how pathogenic organisms can be transmitted in healthcare settings and strategies for prevention and control including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the hepatitis b virus (HBV).
3. Engineering and Work-Practice Controls: Understand controls used to reduce the opportunity for exposure to potentially infectious materials.
4. Personal Protective Equipment and Barriers: Learn how to select and use barriers and personal protective equipment to reduce contact with potentially infectious materials.
5. Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization: Understand infection-control principles for maintaining a safe patient-care environment.
6. Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease: Review strategies for preventing and controlling infectious and communicable diseases among healthcare workers.
7. Sepsis Awareness: Understand sepsis awareness and education as part of infection-control training. NYSED specifies these seven core elements as the minimum content that approved infection-control coursework must cover.
